More White Shirt Goodness

I forgot to include this excellent image in yesterdays’ white shirt post. Now it gets a whole post of its own!

Which is a good thing because this is what a stylish summer man looks like in my mind…simple styling, relaxed silhouette, crinkly soft fabrics in light colours, and of course some lovely accessories in the way of man jewellery, shades and not a pair of Havaianas flip-flops in sight.

Hooray for shirt, shoes and shorts! Everybody loves a well dressed man, and nobody likes man-toes…true story.

More White Shirts

Shirts white 1

After last week’s post about white shirts, I wore white shirts for days. I have four of them and would love a few more…if I find the perfect one you’ll hear about it!

Anyways, I heard over and over again “what about one for guys?”, and seeing as there is nothing sexier than a man in a crisp white shirt, here goes. A classic across the ages, dressed up or dressed down, a man in a white shirt is timeless chic.

1 Outfit, 3 Awesome Looks

3ways

I do love a good shirt. Luckily there are a lot of different styles around for Spring / Summer, and lots of prints too if you dare. As you can see in this look that I sourced for a client, the shirt is definitely the hero of this great semi-casual Spring outfit.

1. Worn unbuttoned and untucked for an easy and casual overshirt look.
2. Worn buttoned up with rolled sleeve for a neater but still casual look.
3. Worn tucked in with a nice belt for a more dressed up look.

Needless to say, this shirt was one of my client’s favourite pieces in the end…Excellent tailored cut, cotton linen fabric in tiny polka dot and sweet little pocket square detail made it a great buy and a pleasure to wear.

Garments2

Outfit consists of Scotch and Soda polka dot shirt, Light Comma Shadow patterned t-shirt, Maians Julian Shoes in Marengo, Carhart Sid Pants in Canyon.

The rest of the outfit needs a little credit too. Even though this look is a quite bold with the rust coloured chinos, a navy, olive or beige pant would work just as well and be more subdued. Black jeans would even work! And the shoes could change depending on the occasion of course.

Hope you like this outfit as much as my client did! I think it’s fun and relaxed, but still stylish. Really, that should be the aim of all outfits I think!

Outfits Aplenty!

As a buyer for a store, you’re always working anywhere from a year to 6 months ahead. It’s a pretty big gamble. The most exciting part is when after hours and hours of appointments and showings and budgeting and culling and re-shuffling and more budgeting and then six months of waiting, the stock we painstakingly chose from a million and fifty things finally arrives…and it’s awesome! After a decade of being a buyer, I don’t have any major fails anymore (knock on wood…there have been some doozies in the past) but even nowdays it’s still a bit nervewracking when it all starts arriving.

Style Tip: All-over-prints are everywhere this season for guys. Not keen to look like a Hawaiian tourist? Excellent! Stick to a small pattern in a subdued hue, and team with solid plains.jeans

Style Tip: Sworn off your jeans forevs now that you’ve grown to love chinos? Well there’s no need to go to extremes, jeans are and always will be a must-have wardrobe staple. They’re awesome! Stick to clean and structured if you are only going to get one pair.

chinosStyle Tip: Chinos are an excellent way to smarten up your outfit over summer. Opt for soft lightweight fabric, with a tapered leg. And do go colourful! I mean, it IS summer after all!

My favourite part is making outfits from the new arrivals, matching it all up and thinking about what kind of person would wear such an outfit and where they would wear it. I always think in outfits when it comes to buying…buying for the shop, for my Personal Shopping clients, for myself…anything that you buy needs to go with other things or you end up with a wardrobe full of “nothing to wear”.

So here’s a little outfit inspiration (for the guys…sorry ladies, your turn next) all these looks put together from the current selections at my store Alfie’s Friend Rolfe. Six months ago we chose all of these pieces from different boutique labels, and they all go together so perfectly! It takes a lot of research and planning, but the end result is excellent outfits aplenty.

If you need help with outfits then now is the time to contact me as it’s the beginning of the season and the perfect time to plan, source and buy…spend well and spend wisely.

Don’t Fight The Blues Part II

Dressier Blues

Last week I put together a “mood-board of manly casualness in many blue hues” for you. It was a homage to everything blue and manly for looking awesome on the weekend and during leisure time (do people still have leisure time?). This week I’m focusing on a dressier approach. We all gotta dress up sometime, right? And I do love a dapper gent.

So a question that I get asked ALL THE TIME is “what is smart casual?”. It’s the new dress code of choice for anything from a birthday lunch to a wedding, so it can cover quite a lot of ground when it comes to styles. Definitely a topic I need to devote more time to later but for now, pretty much anything in this week’s mood board fits the bill for guys. Blue is a great colour for smart casual attire like an unstructured blazer, slim pant or even a casual suit because black can be too ‘black tie’, brown is a little too ‘vintage’ and grey is a little too ‘business’. In any case, nothing says ‘smart’ better than a perfect ink navy.

Don’t Fight The Blues

Casual Blues

Once upon a time as a rookie fashion buyer I used to try and get all crazy with colours for the men’s section of the shop, you know, so everything wouldn’t be blue. Silly rookie me.  There’s no point trying to fight the blues when it comes men’s clothing and what not. Now I am of the school of thought that the more blue in a man’s wardrobe, the better.

This here is a little mood-board of manly casualness in many blue hues…perfect garb for sunny weekends spent being a man-about-town, strolling around looking awesome, laid back and well-dressed (I just described the perfect guy, yes?).

Sweatshirt Guide For The New Millenium

grid-sweat

Remember the days when sweatshirts used to be baggy, saggy and daggy? The sleeves and body were miles too big; the cuffs and hem would pucker from being so ill-fitting; and said sweatshirt would almost certainly have a hideous sporting brand across the front (and possibly stains). Well guys, those days are officially over…just quietly, they were kinda over in the 90’s.
